Setting Up a New Mac

In this post I describe my personal setup routine, that is which apps I install and how I configure my Mac whenever I get a new machine.

Update: I had written a couple of scripts to automate the installation of the applications described in this post and most of the configuration processes. However, because Apple is rewriting the codebase of macOS in Swift, macOS has undergone major changes under its hood since I wrote those scripts. Therefore, many commands and automation utilities I (and many others) had relied on for our scripts are broken since macOS Sierra and do not work anymore. For this reason, I have removed these scripts for the time being and am in the process of completely overhauling this post. I’m not sure whether these commands will ever work again. If possible at all, it will take quite some work to get these scripts working again. For the time being, I will thus only list and describe the applications I use without providing the scripts that automate the configuration of my system. If you want to get notified when I re-release my scripts, be sure to follow me on Twitter.
